Rangers and Celtic need 'crazy' transfer bid to sign target as Ibrox chiefs learn fate of big money offer
Rangers and Celtic are both tracking the same player in the transfer market.
Rangers and Celtic have learned that a seismic bid will be needed if they are to sign one of their top targets this summer.
The Hoops registered interest in Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis during January but a deal could not be agreed. They have been joined in the race by their arch-rivals who also want to bring him to the Premiership and Rangers have gone in with a big bid of £8m to try and get a deal done.
That will not be enough though as the Italian side are desperate to keep one of their top assets. They are claimed to be in a good selling position, according to Sky Italy’s Luca Bendoni, and it will need to be something extraordinary if a deal is to be done. Celtic already had a move of £6m clamped.
Who will sign Fares Ghedjemis this summer transfer window?
Bendoni stated: “Rangers have had an offer rejected by Frosinone for Fares Ghedjemis. Proposal in the region of £8m/€10m. Celtic had first bid of £6m turned down. Frosinone strong in their position, they want to keep Ghedjemis unless a crazy offer comes.”
The pair have both played out their opening Premiership matches. Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee United and Celtic beat Dundee 1-0. Aasgaard, who scored for Rangers at Tannadice after cutting his World Cup break following involvement with Norway short, said: “It was frustrating. It’s been too many years now that we haven’t won that first game.
“There were some positives. We showed some character to get back but we should have more than enough quality to go and win the game so we were disappointed in the end. It was great to score but it’s not the same when you can’t celebrate a win in front of the fans. It’s a bit bittersweet. It’s nice to get on the score sheet and I always set out to do that when I’m on the pitch so I’m happy about that. As for Europe, we’ll do our best to get those connections working by then. We’re in every day working as hard as we possibly can. The manager’s got our support and we feel that from the fans as well.”

Benjamin Nygren on Celtic 1-0 Dundee
Midfielder Benjamin Nygren meanwhile scored the winner for the champions and he told club media: “It was a difficult game. We had some chances in the first half and it would be a different game if we had scored earlier. That’s how it is sometimes. We also have to respect the opponent, and sometimes you have to wait a bit for the goal.
“We can just try to focus on creating chances and in the end get the goal and get the win. I'm a player who always wants to get on the ball and create chances, not only for myself but for my teammates. I think we created more chances today and we could have scored a few more goals. Like I said, that's how it is sometimes, and one goal today was enough.”
