Seething Ally McCoist has hit back at suggestions that Rangers players should face less scrutiny for Sunday’s 1-0 Premiership defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park amid their ongoing off-field issues.
The Ibrox hero was left incensed after watching Philippe Clement’s side produce another poor performance in Ayrshire - a result that saw the Light Blues fall even further behind league leaders Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the table.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “What do you want me to say, we're hopeless? We're not very good. We need to get a bit of stability at the top, straight away, what he (Clement) said after the game was definitely factually correct, but the fact of the matter is, performance levels were poor. Really, really poor. “From Rangers point of view, there is no chairman at this point in time. John Gilligan is doing his very best, and he will continue to do so, but there is a lack of stability at the top. There is no chief executive, the previous chief executive nipped away to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, wherever he went. The club, the spine of the club, is not right.”
Amid his lengthy list of concerns, McCoist has demanded Clement’s players to have a “look at themselves” after another lackluster showing at Rugby Park. He commented: “One hundred per cent, don't take that for a minute, players have got to look at themselves, it was a shocking performance, don't think I'm sidestepping the issue and not giving the players any stick. Poor midfield, shocking goal to lose and never created nearly enough.”
Addressing Clement’s position, McCoist doesn’t believe the Belgian is facing the sack at present due to financial reasons, adding: “A couple of things, I don't think the club are in any position to start getting rid of people. I don't think they can afford it financially. The fact of the matter is this, he has to get better results. Where I would stick up for him a little bit, I am not sure he has been dealt the best hand of cards with the players he has left. The recruitment prior to him coming has been absolutely not nearly good enough.”
