Three but not so easy puts Rabs in top spot

But despite their strong position after three wins out of three so far, manager Stewart Maxwell says he’s taking nothing for granted.

With no game tonight (Wednesday) Rabs can sit back in the knowledge that failure by rivals Kilsyth Rangers and Rossvale to beat Dunipace and Cumbernauld respectively would put them through with a game to spare.

Even if one, or both, win, a draw from Rob Roy’s final section match away to Rossvale would be enough.

But Maxwell insisted: “We’re in a good position but we’re not there yet.

“I know there’s still more to come from my team. We’ve had some good passages of play but we can do better.”

Their victories over Dunipace and Kilsyth were built primarily on their second half displays and that’s something Maxwell wants addressed.

He said: “Against Dunipace we were rotten in the first half but they got the hair drier treatment at half-time and could have gone on to score seven or eight.

“Against Kilsyth we really dominated the second half especially and their keeper Andy Carlin was magnificent.

“Reece Pearson‘s header for the winner was tremendous and it was always going to take something special.

“Everybody in the group wants to beat Rob Roy as the Premier Division team and it will be the same for Rossvale.”
