New bowling alley could open at Silverburn Shopping Centre alongside luxury car brand Polestar

A new bowling alley could be set to open at Silverburn Shopping Centre if a planning application gets the go ahead.

The proposed venue on the first floor of the centre would also offer ‘ice free curling, pool tables and ‘duck pin bowling’ – a variation on ten pin bowling which uses a smaller ball and shorter pins.

It is understood the new leisure attraction would be located on the first floor of the centre on part of a site formerly occupied by Argos.

Eurofund Group have applied for planning permission to make internal alterations to a number of units to make way for the venture in Pollok. The bowling facility’s opening hours are still to be confirmed.

A cover letter lodged alongside other planning documents with Glasgow City Council said: “The proposed change of use will enhance the diversification of Pollok town centre and will not result in the loss of a Class 1 (retail) unit, nor adversely affect the retail character or the effective functioning of Pollok town centre.

“The proposed development will result in more active floorspace and uses within Pollok town centre and contribute positively to the vitality and viability of the town centre.

“Furthermore the proposed development will not have any adverse effect on residential amenity as the site is located within the shopping centre and there are no residential properties within close proximity.”

The ground floor parts of the units referenced in the planning application will remain as retail shops while the first floor level is to be dedicated to leisure use.

Glasgow City Council is considering the application.

The cover letter said: “The proposed leisure use on the first floor is to enable a family oriented ten pin bowling to operate. As well as bowling, the unit is likely to provide pool tables, duck pin and ice free curling.”

Luxury car brand Polestar is to also occupy part of the former Argos space.
