Glasgow Life, the charity that manages culture and sport across Glasgow, has announced that over £1.8 million is being invested in three Glasgow club venues. However, upgrades and refurbishments mean that some gyms and pools will be shut to the public while the work is ongoing.

The renovation investment is part of the cities regular facility refresh programme over the coming months, it is hoped that this will improve the quality of these facilities.

We compiled a list of all the venues to see upgrades, and when they will be open to the public.

Drumchapel Pool

A total of £1.2 million will be invested in Drumchapel Pool, which includes carrying out essential maintenance. This will see air handling units replaced and the Building Management System upgraded, which in turn will improve air quality and energy efficiency. It will also provide a more comfortable experience for pool users and protect the long-term fabric of the building.

The works are expected to take eight months. They will start on Monday October 31 and are scheduled to be completed next summer.

Glasgow Club members will still have access to the 11 other Glasgow Club pools across the city during this time.

The Glasgow Club gym at Bellahouston will get new cardio and strength equipment as well as items for the freshly decorated functional fitness area. The dance studio will have a new floor and feature lighting installed.

The investment will also see gyms and studio spaces in Bellahouston and the Gorbals renovated as part of the regular citywide facility refresh programme over the coming months. It is hoped that this will improve the quality of these facilities.

The dance studio will be closed from Monday October 24 and is expected to reopen on Monday 14 November.

Bellahouston’s gym will temporarily close from Thursday November 10, with work projected to finish on Thursday 1 December.

Bailie Annette Christie, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “This investment will ensure Drumchapel Pool continues to serve the local community and surrounding areas for years to come. It is scheduled to re-open next year when Glasgow will celebrate its second term as European Capital of Sport. People will return to an improved building and enjoy a better experience at the pool.

“The funding will also allow gym users at Bellahouston and the Gorbals to have access to state-of-the-art equipment. The studio makeovers will allow people to enjoy our wide range of fitness classes in more modern and refreshed surroundings. Improving the quality of these facilities has the power to encourage more people to get involved and experience the numerous benefits of sport and physical activity.”
