Celtic request 'updated information' on Hibs ace as Hoops plan potential transfer raid on Premiership rivals

The Easter Road midfielder isn’t the only Leith star linked with a Parkhead January move.

As the January window takes shape, Celtic are wasting no time outlining their transfer targets, with a Hibs midfielder the latest man to be linked with the club.

Wilfried Nancy signed AFC Bournemouth right back Julian Araujo, who has already featured in a green and white jersey, however Kyogo Furuhashi looks to be staying at Birmingham City despite looking set for a Hoops return. With Celtic currently sitting 3rd in the league - six points behind leaders Hearts - it could be a very busy window for Martin O’Neill.

Hibs men Josh Mulligan and Kieron Bowie have both been linked with a move to Glasgow’s East End in January as Celtic are keeping tabs on both players. While their respective situations are still being monitored, reportedly, the Hoops have their eye on a third Hibs player, who has went slightly more under the radar this season.

‘Updated information’ requested on Hibs ace

According to transfer journalist, Rudy Galetti, Celtic are looking at Hibs midfielder Miguel Chaiwa, as well as Mulligan and Bowie. The Zambia International has just returned to Leith from the Africa Cup of Nations.

On X, Galetti claims: “Celtic and Fiorentina have shown interest in Miguel Chaiwa, requesting updated information on the Hibernian player. The 21-year-old Zambia international, under contract until 2028, is among the profiles admired by both sides to strengthen their midfield.”

Since signing from Swiss side, BSC Young Boys in the summer, the 21-year old has made 16 appearances for Hibs, scoring two important goals so far in away fixtures against Legia Warsaw and St Mirren respectively. He featured in two of Zambia’s three group games at AFCON and already has 16 senior caps for his country. TransferMarkt value him at around £1 million.

Chaiwa ‘ a young, exciting player’

Hibs boss David Gray may now have a problem keeping Bowie, Mulligan and Chaiwa at Easter Road as The Hoops’ interest piques. In the case of Bowie, Rangers are also keeping tabs on the young striker, who Hibs value at around £6 million.

Gray has been complimentary of Chaiwa in the past and believes despite his age, he shows maturity beyond his years on the pitch. Less than a month after he signed, the Hibs gaffer said: “he’s a young, exciting player. He's got a lot of brilliant attributes. A lot to learn still as well. He's got so much energy. Positionally, we've got a lot to work on him with.

“He's got a brilliant attitude to working towards it. He's aggressive, he's athletic. A proper modern day midfielder. When you look at that, he's really competitive. Good energy and technically good as well. I think he's got all the right tools to be a top midfielder. We've got him at a time where he's still got a lot of improvement to come as well. From a coaching point of view, loads of things to work on him with. I think he's going to be a good asset for the football club longer term.”
