Rangers hero relishing first managerial gig in Scotland with ‘family club’
Nacho Novo is relishing the chance to get down to work with family friendly West of Scotland club Darvel after being unveiled as their new manager.
The Rangers hero was handed the reigns at Recreation Park on Sunday before immediately setting his sights on promotion back to the Premier Division.
When asked what attracted him to the Darvel job, Novo told the club’s media team: “Obviously, it’s a club that’s got history, a family club as well. I just want to come and do a job. I'm very excited to be here and I can’t wait to start.
“Ambitions? Winning and getting higher in the league. Obviously, in the position we are now we’re two or three wins away from the top. It's nothing major, but we're going to need to start winning and I want to try to take them to the top.
“I look forward to getting to know the players better and try to get the club back in higher leagues because this is a talented club. One of the things that attracted me most is that it's a family club and they’re doing a lot of things for the community. It's more enjoyable and that's one of the things I love the most.”
Celtic submit enquiry for Morocco U20s captain
Celtic have submitted an enquiry for Morocco Under 20s captain Houssam Essadak.
According to reports in his homeland, the Hoops have targeted the defensive midfielder and have asked his parent club UTS Rabat how much they want for him.
Essadek captained Morocco to World Cup glory last month, guiding the young Atlas Lions to a 2-0 win over Argentina in the final. He looked set to join Las Palmas in the summer for £400,000, but the deal collapsed following their relegation from La Liga.
Celtic are expected to invest heavily in their squad when the January window opens following a much-criticised summer recruitment drive.
Sunderland were also linked with 20-year-old Essadek after a producing a number of top performances in the Moroccan league. But reports in the African country have indicated the Scottish champions are leading the race for his signature.
