Former Rangers star joins Ibrox hero's inner circle at Premiership rival as he takes next career step
Rival club ‘delighted’ to announce appointment of new first team coach
Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot will join Ibrox hero Neil McCann on the Kilmarnock touchline next season having been appointed the position of first team coach.
It will be the 41-year old’s first job in the dugout after calling time on a playing career that spanned over two decades. The former Scotland International finished just shy of 700 career appearances for nine different clubs, including Rangers and Kilmarnock. During his five years at Ibrox he won four major honours and was part of the side who reached the UEFA Cup final in 2008. He earned four caps for the Scotland National Team.
Broadfoot will join fellow former Rangers men Neil McCann and his number two Billy Dodds at Rugby Park for the upcoming campaign. The club have made progress under the stewardship of the pair, having escaped relegation last season after taking over from Stuart Kettlewell in January.

Kilmarnock appoint Broadfoot as first team coach
A club statement read: “Kilmarnock Football Club can confirm an update to its coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 season. We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kirk Broadfoot as first team coach. Neil McCann has added the 41-year-old to his backroom team after the former defender, who made over 100 appearances for the club during his playing career, stepped up from our Under-19s side following the departure of Craig Clark earlier this summer.
“He joins Kevin McNeill, Graeme McArthur, Fraser Stewart, Ross Goodwin, Billy Dodds, McCann, Lee Thomson and Jordan Templeton in the first team set-up. The club wishes Kirk all the best in his new full time position at BBSP Stadium Rugby Park.”
Broadfoot will bring a wealth of playing experience to the coaching game, having also featured for St Mirren, Blackpool, Rotherham, Kilmarnock, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Open Goal Broomhill, Greenock Morton and Kelty Hearts.

Kilmarnock enlist coach with ‘dedication and commitment’
While his playing career officially ended with Kelty Hearts, Broadfoot himself admitted that his main motivation for going there was to achieve the career milestone of 700 appearances, which he fell just short of. After he left Morton in February 2025, the club wished him the best for his future in the game. They said: “Greenock Morton can confirm that Kirk Broadfoot has departed the club.
“Kirk made a total 57 appearances for the Ton, scoring 5 times. During his time at Cappielow, Kirk has been a consummate professional who always made himself available to play including through periods of injury. A player that has played at the highest level in this country, Kirk always showed dedication and commitment to the club and we are grateful for all his effort during his time with us, we also wish him well as he moves on to a new chapter.”
