Rangers are one of seven clubs said to be on the scene to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt on loan in the January transfer window.

The 22-yeard-old signed for Leeds United from Wigan Athletic in 2020 and has featured in the Premier League for them, on top of a loan spell with Sunderland. A powerful forward, the attacker is also capable of playing in attacking midfield should his team require him to do so.

The forward got chances aplenty under former boss Marcelo Bielsa but his opportunities at Elland Road have become increasingly restricted. He made 10 appearances last season and even though they weren't keen to sanction a permanent move and this term has appeared just three times.

Now according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Rangers are one of the sides who have expressed an interest in signing him on loan in the winter window. Rivals for his signature include Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle, managed by England and Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney.

Bielsa loved working with the forward during his time as manager of Leeds United and in an interview back in 2021, held nothing back woth regards to what he thought of his all action style of play.

The current Uruguay boss said: “He's like a human wrecking ball. I like him, he's really exciting. He's fast, he's aggressive, he gets on the ball, he takes people on. Once he gets into the box, he loves it. That’s where he can do most of his damage."
