For decades in Glasgow, drunk teenagers, students, adults and elderly folk alike have all argued after final orders have been called - where is the best kebab in Glasgow?
Well argue no more, as we’ve brought in the be all and end all of Glaswegian sources to end this kebab controversy.
In the dead of a weekend night, when pints have been drank and chips have been spilled - when the last train home has been missed and the night bus isn’t turning up - who is there to save us? Who could possibly rescue the people of Glasgow from the inevitable? A bad-quality kebab mis-purchased in a drunken haze.
None other than the Shawarma Police - the foremost academic and expert on all things Shawarma in Glasgow. No longer do half-eaten rubbish kebabs need to litter our streets, for we are saved by his expertise.
Hailing from London, our kebab constable moved to the city in the early noughties - and has faithfully watched his beat evolve and change in Glasgow over the last twenty years.
We caught up with Shawarma Police to do a public service for the people of Glasgow this weekend, and definitively rank the best kebabs in the city.

9. 2. Doner Haus, West Nile Street
“Doner Haus has been a revelation since they opened. Food is consistently good, a great range of German lagers like ‘BABS. It’s a proper all round thing, with chips and bratwurst and all the rest of it. I’d recommend the mixed chilli doner on a German flatbread, all cooked in. It’s probably one of my favourite kebabs that you can get right now, but that’s just my personal preference.” - Shawarma Police puts Doner Shack at Silverburn on the same level as Doner Haus too | Doner Haus Facebook

10. 1. Istanbul Turkish Kebab House, Paisley Road West
“Istanbul hasn’t been beaten for me and I don’t think they ever will be beaten. It’s an unassuming little kebab shop, but the food in there is amazing. Kebabs made in the traditional Turkish way, it’s all (meats, salad, sauce) served to you in separate bags with a Turkish sesame seeded flatbread right out of the oven. I’ve been going there for at least 20 years, and the queue is often well out the door. They can be a bit mysterious and random about opening times, but their kebabs have to be eaten to be understood. It’s a Turkish kebab flavour you don’t get anywhere else in Glasgow, you just don’t get the same level of flavour. They only do one sauce, it’s red and almost like a salsa, very heavy on the coriander. The kebab meat isn’t fatty and there’s much more of a bite to it. Their real specialty is the mixed grill, it takes about 15 minutes to cook so go and get yourself a pint in the Old Toll Bar while you wait. For my money? It’s the best kebab in Glasgow.” | Istanbul Facebook
